Towns to consider for purchasing a ski bach

During the winter months, the snow transforms our alpine landscapes into a winter wonderland. There are multiple ski fields all around the country, making it easy for people to access and enjoy – no matter where you’re.

New Zealand has an international reputation for skiing and snowboarding in places like Queenstown and Wanaka – but staying in, or even buying a property in these locations comes with a hefty price tag.

So what if you want to enjoy all that the snow has to offer and are also holding onto the dream of owning your very own property? We have looked into the median HomesEstimate in local ski towns around the country to work out where this still might be able to become a reality.

In the North Island Horopito could be your spot with a median HomesEstimate of $145K. It is no secret Horopito has the best views in the entire region of Mount Ruapehu. A 30-minute drive to both the Turoa and Whakapapa Ski fields. It has a charming feel due to its remoteness, so remote in fact it doesn’t even have a local shop or cafe. You can access all the restaurants and shops in Ohakune only a short 10-minute drive away.

Raetihi and Taihape have median HomesEstimates of $158K and $159K respectively. Taumarunui came in at a close fourth with a median HomesEstimate of $162K. In Ohakune the median HomesEstimate is $293K.

Methven has established itself as a snow sports town and is only a 35-minute drive to the Mt Hutt ski area. Methven offers an abundance in terms of facilities and activities catering to snow lovers. In comparison, Wanaka has a median HomesEstimate of $1.062M.
