You think you know bathrooms and then 2019 rolls in… Everything you once knew about bathrooms can stay in the past, because this year’s trends are unlike anything you’ve ever seen before. Elaborate lighting solutions? Check. Luxurious fixtures? Check. Glass tiles? Check. State-of-the-art technology? Cheeeck! Okay, okay, you get the point.
As we already know, bathrooms started receiving the attention they deserve a couple of years back. They were no longer considered just a place to clean yourself before you head out or go to bed. Thanks to this realization – took us long enough – the bathroom designs started getting more and more unique each year. Below, we’ve prepared a list of this year’s favorites that are sure to transform your bathroom into a contemporary piece of heaven.
Just another accent wall – or is it?
Accent walls feel like old news when it comes to design. Usually achieved with paint or wallpaper, these walls are already featured in many bathrooms. However, this year’s twist comes in the form of glass tile mosaics. Yep, you read that right.
Mosaics will be a huge hit this year, as you can do basically whatever you want with them. The design can range from luxurious damask patterns and oversized florals to various pixelated landscapes. If there’s a crouching gamer in you, you can always use this opportunity to pay respects to the all-time favorite – Super Mario. But, jokes aside, glass tile mosaics are extremely beautiful, easy to clean and maintain, and highly versatile.
Swing from the chandelier
No, don’t do that! We didn’t mean literally! Another interesting design element comes in the form of luxurious lighting fixtures. An elaborate chandelier, for example, is something nobody will expect to find in a bathroom, which makes it that much more special.
Additionally, various wall sconces can work as excellent sources of task lighting, bringing some more luxe into your bathroom. Crystal wall sconces and a crystal chandelier will fill your bathroom with almost magical sparkle, making you feel like a true princess (or prince). Candelabra wall sconces are another interesting option, that will bring that extra touch of elegance. Of course, no matter the style you opt for, always go with LED bulbs because you don’t want to be just fashionable, but eco-friendly as well.
Fixtures that will fit right in
Of course, the traditional bathroom fixtures will not be replaced with some out-of-this-world technology that will make them obsolete, but some of the contemporary fixtures do look like something that came straight out of a sci-fi novel. Semi-recessed or undermounted wash basins are what we are getting at, with their clean lines and original designs.
Another unique feature you should definitely go for is a freestanding bathtub. Apart from looking extremely elegant, a stylish designer freestanding bath with a matt finish is very practical and easy to clean. And, when paired with brass water fixtures, these will be almost impossible to beat when it comes to the aesthetic appeal.
Tech it up
Thanks to modern technologies, almost every room in our homes became much more comfortable and practical, and the bathroom is no exception. Completely automated bathrooms are all the rage, but if you can’t afford to automate everything, here are some ways you can still implement some smart technologies in your bathroom. Underfloor heating systems are, again, not such a huge innovation, but these modern solutions can be controlled and regulated via your smartphone! Next, we should definitely mention high-tech toilets. These nifty sanitaries feature seat warmers, sensor-controlled automatic lid openers, slow-close features, as well as built-in deodorizers.
Other worthy mentions are definitely smart showers – you can program them to “remember” your favorite water temperature or play your favorite tune while taking a shower; built-in coolers – more on this later; and, of course, waterproof TVs.
Vanities are so versatile and so important that they deserve special attention. As you already know, it doesn’t take much effort to create a classic vanity, even if you decide to do it yourself. However, the vanities we are talking about have nothing to do with “classic” or “common”.
First things first, a modern vanity must feature high-quality, LED Hollywood lights – how else do you propose to contour properly? Second – and you’re gonna love this one – they feature built-in coolers. These are not only the best place to store all of your medication and beauty products, but they can also welcome a bottle or two of your favorite bubbly to make those long, relaxing baths even more special. When it comes to style, the options are endless but make sure you go with something that is both luxurious and practical, and that has enough storage space.
We could go on and on, listing every single bathroom innovation that this year will bring, but we’re not going to do that. As always, you should follow your own sense of style when (re)decorating and try to create a place that will cater to your own personal needs and desires. However, do keep in mind that not all of the abovementioned elements can play well together, so make sure you choose your favorites and focus on them, to avoid making your bathroom look tacky.
